~The most amazing attribute of Srinagar in my book is the house boats. The most ornately carved works of art I have ever seen in my life. As soon as you step foot inside, you are immediately transported a hundred years in the past. Thick hand knotted rugs of the finest quality cover every inch of floor space. Detailed wood carvings from statues to room dividers to dining tables fill the rest of the space. The bedrooms are fit for a queen and king. Included with a nights rent is breakfast, dinner and afternoon tea. When I was there in 1992, it was around 75-100 rupees($2.50-3.00) per night. My friend Pat who was there in 1997 said it wasn't much more~
